With the sudden launch of Geode and the beginning of my newest project (not quite ready to reveal yet), Type Gym went on a short break. But it's back today with lowercase "d." I wanted to try something a little different this time. I drew the initial blackletter-inspired d, and then went back and aligned all my handle points so they were arranges horizontally and vertically, shown below.
It's a technique I recently read about and wanted to try. And really, it does force you to me more aware of anchor utility and placement. If you force yourself to align handles in an orderly fashion, you'll end up eliminating TONS of unnecessary anchors while simplifying and beautifying your curves.
